Sanitary 90° Short Elbow (SUS304, Weld Type)

Hello, this is VALVEPARK.

Sanitary piping cannot be installed in a straight line only. Depending on where the equipment sits, the line often has to change direction, and the component most commonly used for that is the Sanitary 90° Short Elbow (SUS304, Weld Type). In this article we explain what a short elbow is, where it is used, and how it differs from a long elbow, in terms that someone new to the subject can follow.

What is a Sanitary 90° Short Elbow?

A sanitary 90° short elbow is a connecting component that turns the direction of pipe flow through 90 degrees. Put simply, it changes a straight run of pipe into an L shape. The short type in particular has a tighter bend radius than a standard elbow, which means it can be installed even where space is confined. It is also welded directly to the pipe, so the joint is rigid, and it is widely used in food and pharmaceutical processes where hygienic control is important.

Why a Short Elbow is Used

A question we are often asked is whether there is any particular reason to choose the short type. The main reason is that it reduces the installation space required. In a plant where a number of machines are installed, for example, there is frequently not enough room to route piping in a long sweep. A short elbow allows the piping to be laid out cleanly even in a tight space. On the other hand, because the bend is tighter, fluid flow can meet slightly more resistance than it would through a long elbow.

That is the general basis on which the two are used.

Where Is It Used?

The sanitary 90° short elbow is used across a range of industries where hygienic control is important.

Wherever the direction of a pipe has to be changed, it is a basic fitting that can be used in almost any sanitary piping system.

Closing

The Sanitary 90° Short Elbow (SUS304, Weld Type) is a hygienic piping fitting that turns the pipe direction through 90 degrees while making efficient use of the available installation space. Its SUS304 stainless steel construction gives excellent corrosion resistance and hygienic performance, and the welded connection allows a rigid, stable piping system to be built. Since it is such a widely used basic piping component across food, beverage, pharmaceutical, bio, chemical, and secondary battery industries, selecting the version that matches the installation environment and purpose is important.
