Hello, this is VALVEPARK.

The sanitary 3PC ball valve SV-01 series is a SUS316-grade hygienic ball valve that supplies the same 3PC body with four actuation types: manual, bare, pneumatic and electric.

In pharmaceutical, biotech and food and beverage processes, contamination can remain even after cleaning if the piping has places where fluid pools or surfaces that are rough, so these lines use sanitary valves with a smooth inner surface that are easy to take apart and clean.

Data center cooling systems also call for cleanliness and uninterrupted operation, so sanitary valves are applied there as well.

A 3-A certified hygienic ball valve for clean-environment lines

3-A Certification and Common Hygienic Design Specifications

The SV-01 series is certified to 3-A (the sanitary standards for dairy and food equipment in the United States) and holds certificate No. 3704 under 3-A 68-01, the standard for ball-type valves.

Under the 3-A program, the 3-A symbol may be used on a product only after third-party verification, so the certificate serves as supporting evidence at the supervision and inspection stage, where hygiene requirements have to be confirmed in documents.

The inner surface in contact with the fluid is finished by 240-grit polishing to Ra (average surface roughness) 0.4 µm or less. This is smoother than the Ra 0.8 µm level commonly used for product-contact surfaces in hygienic equipment.

The body is a 3PC (three-piece) construction that separates the center body from the two end caps, so the center body can be taken out to service the seats, ball and seals without dismantling the piping. This construction is an advantage for maintenance on lines with frequent CIP (cleaning by circulating cleaning solution without dismantling the piping) and SIP (steam sterilization).

The 3PC construction: the center body is taken out to remove the seats and ball while both end caps stay on the piping

The body is made of stainless steel 316 produced in Taiwan and goes through an oil-free treatment that removes internal oil during assembly and packing. The body is designed to be compact, which makes it easy to install in tight spaces.

Because the body is the same across actuation types, spare parts such as seats and balls can be managed to a single specification.

Main specifications

Body material: SS316 (CF8M), SS316L (CF3M)

Body pressure rating: 1000WOG (a working pressure of 1,000 psi at ambient temperature for water, oil and gas)

Seat: TFM-1600, service temperature -40 to +180℃

Internal polish: Ra 0.4 µm or less (240 grit)

Connection: clamp end, butt weld end (option)

Seat option: cavity filled seat (a seat that fills the empty space around the ball)

Nominal size: 1/2" to 4", eight sizes

The seat service temperature is -40 to +180℃, so the valve is not suited to operating conditions outside this range.

Produced at the Same Partner Factory in Taiwan Since 1985

The SV-01 series body has been made on an OEM (original equipment manufacturing) basis at the same partner factory in Taiwan for about 40 years, since 1985.

It has been supplied for decades without quality issues, and because the production factory has not changed, replacement demand after project completion is met with the same specification. VALVEPARK does not stop at receiving the factory test reports and checks the items below again.

Manual SV-01(D) and SV-01(M), and Bare SV-01(D)

Manual sanitary ball valve SV-01(D) with a locking handle fitted on the ISO 5211 direct-mount pad

The handle of the SV-01(D) uses a patented locking structure (Korean Patent No. 10-2594296) as standard, and the SV-01(M) is also fitted with a locking handle as standard.

With an ordinary locking structure, when the valve is installed on vertical piping the locking device can slide down over time, letting the handle turn and the valve opening change.

In the patented structure a spring holds the locking device in place, and the same valve installed vertically kept its opening after the same length of time.

It also suppresses loosening of the handle caused by repeated operation or vibration, which helps prevent misoperation in which a valve on a food or pharmaceutical line shifts to an unintended position.

The SV-01(D) is the first body in Korea to apply an ISO 5211 (the international standard that defines the dimensions of the actuator mounting face and drive shaft) direct-mount pad beneath the handle. Even if the valve is operated by hand today, an actuator can be mounted on the same body when automation becomes necessary.

For points with no automation plan, the SV-01(M), which has only a locking handle and no pad, can be chosen.

Bare SV-01(D)

The SV-01(D) is supplied either as a manual valve with a locking handle or as a bare valve without a handle. The bare SV-01(D) is a body with the ISO 5211 direct-mount pad and drive shaft exposed and no handle, suited to cases where an actuator matched to the equipment is mounted directly.

Pneumatic SVP-01 and SVP-02, and Electric SVE-14

The automated versions mount an actuator on the same body as the manual valve, so the length and valve torque by nominal size are the same as in the table above.

Pneumatic SVP-01 (double acting) and SVP-02 (single acting)

For fast automatic shut-off on hygienic lines that have compressed air, the SVP-01 (double acting) and SVP-02 (single acting), which mount a pneumatic actuator on the SV-01 body, are the fit.

The double acting SVP-01 opens and closes with air, while the single acting SVP-02 opens with air and closes with a spring built into the actuator, a normally closed (N.C.) configuration.

When the air supply is cut off, the spring in the SVP-02 closes the valve, so the flow stays blocked even if a problem occurs in the air system.

The actuators by size are RP-050RD (1/2") to RP-115RD (4") for double acting and RP-065RS12 (1/2") to RP-160RS10 (4") for single acting.

The solenoid valve, limit switch box and air filter regulator are purchased separately to complete the assembly. Both models can be fitted with an electro-pneumatic or pneumatic positioner (an accessory that sets the valve opening according to the control signal) as an option.

Electric SVE-14

For hygienic lines that have no compressed air or where only a few valves are to be automated, the SVE-14, which mounts an electric actuator on the SV-01 body, is used.

It is installed with power wiring only, without pneumatic piping, an air filter or a solenoid valve, and is applied to tank outlet shut-off and sequence control before and after sterilizers in food and beverage processes. It is also used for remote opening and closing at filler inlets, automatic shut-off of media transfer lines in pharmaceutical and biotech processes, and buffer tank branches.

Depending on the size, the actuator mounted is the DE-004 (1/2" to 1.5"), DE-008 (2"), DE-010 (2.5"), DE-016 (3") or DE-028 (4"). The actuator specification is chosen from the following to match the control method and response speed.

1️⃣ High-speed on-off version: opens and closes in roughly one second on small sizes

2️⃣ Proportional control version: adjusts the degree of valve opening with a 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 VDC input signal

3️⃣ Explosion-proof actuator: for hazardous areas where flammable solvents are handled

On lines where uninterrupted operation matters, such as data center cooling systems, the first thing to settle is where the valve must be when power is lost. A standard electric actuator stops where it is when power is lost, and for lines where the valve has to move to open or closed, a battery backup or spring return version is applied.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I receive a copy of the 3-A certificate together with the quotation?

Yes. If you mention it when requesting a quotation, you can check the certificate number and the scope of certification on a copy of the certificate. If the certification renewal cycle also has to be stated in the supervision and inspection documents, please request that information as well.

Q. Can an actuator be mounted separately on a manual ball valve already in use, or on a bare body?

It can be mounted only when the body has an ISO 5211 direct-mount pad and the mounting face and shaft dimensions match the actuator. The torque needed to turn the SV-01(D) body ranges from 10 N·m at 1/2" to 158 N·m at 4", so we also check that the actuator output torque exceeds this value.

Q. What happens to the double acting SVP-01 when the air is cut off?

A double acting actuator has no return spring, so it does not move to a set position by itself when the air is cut off. For lines that must be closed when the air is cut off, choose the single acting SVP-02, and for lines that only need to be opened and closed with air, use the double acting SVP-01.

Q. Can the electric SVE-14 be installed if the site has only 380 V three-phase power?

380/440 VAC three-phase can be selected only for the DE-016 and DE-028 actuators used on 3" and 4". The DE-004 to DE-010 for 1/2" to 2.5" are configured for 110/220 VAC single-phase or 24 VDC, so please let us know the site power supply when requesting a quotation.
