Hello, this is VALVEPARK.
In a hygienic piping system, pipe is not always run in a single direction. At certain points the process fluid has to be divided, or several lines have to be brought together. The fitting most commonly used for this is the Sanitary Tee. It connects hygienic piping in three directions, and because it is joined with clamps and gaskets instead of welding, installation and disassembly are simple. That makes it well suited to sanitary lines that require regular cleaning and inspection.
As the name suggests, a sanitary tee is a hygienic pipe fitting manufactured in a T shape. It is used wherever piping has to branch or merge: dividing one line into two directions, or joining two lines into a single run, so that the material or fluid inside the pipe can be routed in more than one direction. Unlike a general-purpose piping tee, it is built specifically for processes where hygienic control is important, such as food, pharmaceutical, and bio applications. The sanitary tee has a 3-ferrule construction, so a Tri-Clamp can be connected at all three ports of the T.
For anyone meeting the term for the first time, "3-ferrule" can sound difficult. Put simply, it means that the three openings where pipe is connected are each machined with a ferrule. Insert a gasket at each connection and tighten a clamp, and the pipe is connected. All three directions can therefore be built as demountable connections that can be taken apart and reassembled.
Connection sequence
Sanitary tee → gasket → pipe → clamp fastening
Because the joint is made in this way, piping can be assembled or separated without any welding work.
The sanitary tee is manufactured by precision casting in SUS304 stainless steel. SUS304 is one of the representative stainless steel grades, with corrosion resistance and durability suited to general hygienic piping environments. The internal surface is also polished so that the inside of the line can be kept hygienic, as sanitary piping requires.
Note: depending on process conditions, separate specifications such as SUS316L material or electropolishing can be reviewed.
When selecting a sanitary tee, the important point to confirm is whether the joint needs to be demountable.
| Category | 3-Ferrule Tee | Weld-Type Tee |
|---|---|---|
| Connection method | Tri-Clamp | Welding |
| Installation and disassembly | Simple | Welding work required |
| Maintenance | Can be separated for inspection | Pipe must be cut and re-welded |
| Main characteristic | Demountable piping configuration | Fixed piping configuration |
| Suitable section | Branch points that are cleaned or inspected frequently | Main-line piping that must stay fixed |
Sanitary tees are also classified by the size of the ports being connected, as either an equal tee or a reducing tee. An equal tee has the same diameter at all three connections. A reducing tee, by contrast, is made with one of the three connections at a different diameter, and is used to join pipes of different sizes. The 3-ferrule tee introduced here is an equal tee, with all three ports built to the same size.

The Sanitary Tee (SUS304, 3-Ferrule) is a hygienic fitting for connecting and branching piping flow in three directions. All three connections can be fastened by Tri-Clamp, which makes installation and disassembly convenient and allows a demountable sanitary piping configuration where cleaning and inspection are needed. With an SUS304 stainless steel precision-cast body and polishing to sanitary piping standards, it is used wherever the flow of a hygienic line has to be divided in another direction, across industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceutical and bio, chemical, and secondary battery manufacturing.

Sanitary Tee (SUS304, 3-Ferrule) | VALVEPARK. PSF-23 is a sanitary tee fitting machined with three ferrules, allowing a Tri-Clamp connection at every port. With an SUS304 precision-cast body and the standard polishing applied to sanitary piping, it is used at the branch points of demountable hygienic lines in pharmaceutical, bio, chemical, food and beverage, and secondary battery processes.
