Threaded connections are easy to install and disassemble, but carry a relatively higher long-term leakage risk in vibration-prone or high-temperature applications. Socket-weld requires welding during installation but offers superior long-term seal integrity and is stable in vibration and high-temperature environments. Socket-weld is generally chosen for fixed piping, high-pressure, and high-temperature lines; threaded connections are preferred for lines that require frequent disassembly.
Are there any precautions for socket-weld installation?
The standard practice is to maintain a small gap (typically around 1.5 mm) between the pipe end and the socket bore before performing a fillet weld. Welding with no gap - pipe fully bottomed out - concentrates thermal expansion stress at the socket base and can cause cracking. Please follow applicable standards such as ASME B31.
How does the 3PC structure simplify maintenance?
The 3PC body consists of a center section and two end caps. During maintenance, the socket-welded end caps remain attached to the pipeline while only the center section (containing the seat and ball) is removed and serviced.
