What is the difference between a double-pin (two-stage) and single-pin (one-stage) clamp?
A single-pin clamp has its hinge at one location, giving a simple structure and lower cost, but the face pressure on the side opposite the hinge can be relatively weak. A double-pin clamp distributes the hinge to two locations so that circumferential stress is more uniform, reducing the risk of micro-leakage caused by long-term tilting. Double-pin clamps are preferred on lines with vibration or where strict hermeticity is required.
Must the clamp always be used as a set with a centering ring?
Yes. In the KF/ISO flange system, the standard configuration is to insert a centering ring (with O-ring) between the two flanges and tighten the clamp. Using the clamp alone without a centering ring leaves the O-ring unseated and no seal is formed, so the clamp, centering ring, and O-ring should be managed together as a matched-size set.
How do I choose between aluminum and stainless steel clamps?
Aluminum clamps are widely used in general high-vacuum (HV) lines thanks to their light weight and favorable cost. Stainless clamps are more expensive but offer superior strength and corrosion resistance, making them suitable for lines with strong vibration, corrosive atmospheres, or high temperature. Aluminum is the standard choice for general vacuum exhaust lines.
Up to what vacuum level is it usable?
The KF/ISO flange system is standardly used from medium vacuum through high vacuum (HV). When ultra-high vacuum (UHV) is required the CF flange system is more suitable, so please share your operating environment and we will advise on suitability and alternatives.
