Frequently Asked Questions

How does MF (Movable Flange) differ from a fixed flange?
MF is a movable flange that can rotate freely on the outer circumference of the pipe, making it easy to align bolt-hole positions during installation, advantageous for assembly with already-fixed flanges. A fixed flange is welded integrally with the pipe, so the bolt-hole position is fixed; in cases where it is hard to rotate to align during installation, using MF on one side makes assembly far easier.
How are ISO-K, ISO-F, and MF related?
ISO-K is a method where both sides have smooth flange faces fastened with external clamps, while ISO-F is a bolt-fastening method. MF is a movable flange used on one side in the ISO-F system, mainly used to make bolt-hole alignment easier at pipe ends. Combinations of fixed and MF flanges are common.
Up to what vacuum level can it be used?
The ISO-MF flange system is standardly used from medium vacuum to high vacuum (HV). For environments requiring ultra-high vacuum (UHV), the CF flange system is appropriate, so tell us the operating environment and we will advise on suitability and alternatives.
Must it always be used as a set with the centering ring?
Yes. The ISO flange system has a standard configuration where a centering ring (with O-ring) is sandwiched between two flanges and fastened. Direct fastening without the centering ring will not seat the O-ring and form no seal, so as a rule prepare flanges, centering rings, and O-rings as same-size sets.
