How do I choose between single-acting and double-acting?
Single-acting (spring-return) automatically returns under spring force when pneumatic pressure is lost, making it suitable for safety-shutoff lines requiring Fail Close or Fail Open. Double-acting drives both opening and closing pneumatically, offering large torque margin and fast operation, but position retention is uncertain when pneumatic pressure is lost. Choose single-acting for lines handling flammable gases, organic solvents, or where emergency shutoff is critical, and double-acting for general control.
What accessories can be attached to pneumatic valves?
PSVP-02 can be supplied as an integrated package combining various accessories based on site requirements. Typical accessories include limit switch boxes for feeding open/close status back to DCS/PLC, solenoid valves for remote sequence control, and air filter regulators for particulate/moisture removal and pressure stabilization of the supplied air. How do I choose between Fail Close and Fail Open?
The direction of safety shutoff is determined by the results of the process hazard analysis (HAZOP). Generally, supply lines for flammable or hazardous substances should be automatically shut off upon loss of pneumatic pressure, so Fail Close is selected. Lines where supply must be maintained even upon loss, such as cooling water or cleaning water, use Fail Open.
