PSF-04 is a SUS304 ferrule joined to sanitary tubing piping by expanded-tube welding. The expansion-machined joint sized to the tube outer diameter minimizes the fluid-path step at the weld, and it is used at interface points on high-cleanliness tubing lines in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, food and beverage, and secondary battery processes.

How does an expansion-type ferrule differ from a standard weld ferrule?
A standard weld ferrule (such as PSF-03) butt-welds the pipe end and is mainly used on pipe lines. An expansion-type ferrule is designed so the tube outer diameter is inserted into the inside of the ferrule and welded after expansion forming, minimizing inner-diameter offset at the weld and improving CIP/SIP cleaning efficiency on tubing lines. Use the standard weld type on pipe lines and the expansion type on tubing lines.
Is there anything to watch out for during expansion welding?
Because the tube and ferrule have different wall thickness and heat capacity, an orbital welder with precise control of welding current, speed, and purge gas flow is required. Immediately after welding, internal cleaning and (where required) passivation are needed to ensure hygienic-line cleanliness.
What is the difference between tubing and pipe?
Pipe is specified by inner diameter, while tubing is specified by outer diameter. On hygienic lines, tubing is generally used because its outer-diameter control is strict, which is advantageous for expansion forming and orbital welding. In GMP-grade pharmaceutical and biotech processes, almost all main lines are made of tubing.
Which is appropriate, SUS304 or SUS316L?
