The broad chemical resistance and inert nature characteristic of PTFE make it suitable for sealing sections in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, food and beverage, and secondary battery processes that elastomer gaskets cannot adequately handle.

How do I decide between PTFE and EPDM/silicone gaskets?

Elastomer gaskets (EPDM and silicone) are standard for general food, dairy, and beverage lines and most pharmaceutical process water lines. PTFE gaskets are selected for organic solvents, strong acids and bases, or environments above the elastomer's allowable temperature. In short, PTFE is selected for sections where fluid compatibility is the issue.

Is there anything to watch out for when using PTFE gaskets?

PTFE has lower elastic recovery than elastomers and is prone to creep deformation. Stay within the specified torque during tightening, and on lines with frequent disassembly and reassembly, replace rather than reuse as a default. Also check for foreign-matter contamination during assembly.

Is FDA or USP Class VI grade available when required?

GMP-grade pharmaceutical and biotech processes often require USP Class VI or FDA 21 CFR 177.1550 grade PTFE. If a project needs such grade certification, share the requirement in advance and we will advise on the availability of the corresponding specification.

How is the size selected?

Sanitary gaskets are supplied in tri-clamp standard sizes. Tell us the clamp size and flange type in use and we will prepare a matching specification.
